My mom sewed me once, more than 10 years ago, a beautiful red low-back evening dress. It is the kind of dress which makes you shine and feel like a star each time you try it on.
I still have that dress and I'm happy to say I still fit in :)
Looking at it now, when I have some basic sewing knowledge, makes me appreciate it even more. It has a great look despite a very easy pattern: one big piece of fabric sewed at the back to which you add one strip of fabric from the back of your neck, coming in front to hold the dress in the bust area and then back again, beneath your arms, to get tied at the back in a bow.

The evening dress I created is a sort of a "10 years after " comeback of my mom's garment. I've adjusted some of the elements but tried to maintain the sophisticated look of a low-back evening dress.
I started off with the skirt for which I used a pattern I had bought a while ago. The pattern was in fact for a mid-length skirt and I adjusted it to the floor-length style.
For the top I looked for inspiration at the dress created for the "Project Runway". I just love that dress, I can't help it :)

I kept the back bow which proved to be a savior , not only a good looking accessory. It hides the only detail that went wrong and which I noticed only at the very end when sewing the zipper and when it was too late to chance it. Fortunately the bow makes this detail impossible to get noticed.

Excluding this detail which bothers me because I didn't see it till it was too late, I'm happy with the result and I'll sure try the pattern again.
I love wearing and creating evening dresses.
You can find the dress in my shop.
